We have found useful the following books:
- Afoot and Afield: Reno-Tahoe: A Comprehensive Hiking Guide, by Mike White. This is my favorite. The trail descriptions are very accurate, the hikes are very organized, and the book contains a wide selection of hikes of different length and difficulty. You can see right away by the richness and precision of the hike descriptions how the author has really done all the hikes.
- An Outdoor Family Guide to Lake Tahoe, by Lisa Gollin Evans. This is another nice guide; it describes many short nice hikes that are ideal for families with young children.
- Moon Tahoe (Moon Guidebook), by Anne Marie Brown. While the trail descriptions are less accurate than in Mike White’s book cited above, the book contains a very good variety of hikes, and is a useful reference.
